Semira Negash is a 28-year-old young entrepreneur who works with many small farmers in the Kochere and Yirgacheffe woredas.
She is doing significant experimentation with specialty coffee batches at her processing station in order to provide her, and the producers who bring her their drupes, with higher than average returns. One of these batches also participated in the Ethiopian Cup of Excellence, scoring well and motivating everyone to continue on this path.
Coffee cultivation in Ethiopia is mainly family-based: on very small plots of land families grow various crops, so coffee plants are often grown in the shade of fruit trees.
